Categories are the foundation of your digital asset management system - get them right and you will have the foundation to grow and manage your DAM for years to come.

  • Categories are a way to group your assets into subjects for your users to navigate through
  • They are similar to computer folders with the difference that one asset can be present in multiple categories
  • Your taxonomy is hierarchically grouped into main categories (parent categories) and sub-categories (child categories)
  • Create as many layers of folders as you like - though we recommend sticking to a lower number that is still easy to navigate!

Creating a Category

There are two ways to create a new category:

1. Create a category right from within your category tree by hovering over the parent category that you would like to add a sub-category to and clicking the + icon on the right side of the category name.

3. To Move: You will notice that the current parent category for the category you have selected will be highlighted. To choose a new parent category, select the new category which will then be highlighted. Your category will now become a child category of this new highlighted category.

To Rename: If you do not want to move a category, but simply want to edit its name, select the category and enter the desired name under New Category Name.
