Overview
The Asset Picker is the new way to select images, videos, and other assets in Experience Portals. It replaces the older asset picker experience and is now used anywhere you choose media in My Site.
The picker uses the familiar MediaValet DAM interface which means you can browse, search, filter, and select assets without leaving the page building experience.
The Asset Picker is used in:
- The Asset component
- All Media components, including Hero, Info Card, Image, Video, and Gallery
What You’ll See (Permissions & Access)
The assets available in the picker depend on your access level in MediaValet.
The picker automatically shows:
- Only the categories you’re allowed to access
- Only the assets within those categories
For example:
- If you’re an editor with access to a few specific categories, you’ll only see assets from those categories.
- If you’re an admin with full access, you’ll see the entire asset library.
You don’t need to configure anything in Experience Portal — your permissions are applied automatically when you open the picker.
How to Use the Asset Picker
1. Open the Picker
While editing a page in My Site, you can open the asset picker in two ways:
- Click Select asset in the right-hand Content panel, or
- Click Add Asset directly on the component on the page
This opens the picker in a modal window.
2. Browse, Search, and Filter Assets
The picker uses the MediaValet interface, so it may already feel familiar.
You can:
- Browse the library using the category tree
- Use search to find assets by keyword
- Apply advanced filters such as:
- File type
- Upload date
- Status
- Color
- Rating
- Categories and collections
- Custom attributes
- People in images or videos
- Text found in documents, images, or transcripts
Filters can be combined and cleared individually to narrow down results.
3. Select an Asset
When you hover over an asset thumbnail, quick actions appear:
- Select
Marks the asset so you can confirm it before adding. - Quick add
Adds the asset to the component immediately.
4. Confirm Your Selection
After selecting an asset:
- A checkmark appears on the thumbnail.
- A confirmation bar appears at the bottom of the picker.
You can confirm your choice:
- Directly from the asset card, or
- From the confirmation bar at the bottom of the window.
Once confirmed, the picker closes and the asset is applied to your component.
5. Limitations
As for now, we recommend using the Asset Picker on Chromium-based browsers (such as Google Chrome or Edge)
