How to bypass CreativeSPACES can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software" error

When installing CreativeSPACES for the first time on a MacOSX device, the following error message might trigger:

This warning message is not isolated to SPACES but rather any application a user is trying to install when Apple is unable to verify that the software is from one of their identified developers.

Steps on how to override this message can be found below:

  1. Open “Finder” and navigate to “Applications”

    • Do not use Launchpad to locate the app in question.


  2. Once the app has been located, CTRL + Click the app icon.

  3. Select “Open” from the drop-down menu that appears.

  4. The pop-up error message will now show an option for “Open” - click it.

  5. Alternatively, the app can also be verified from "System Preferences"

    • Go to Security & Privacy and ensure the "General" tab is selected.

    • From the message that appears below, click on the "Open Anyway" prompt.

    • From the pop-up warning that appears, click on "Open" as shown below:

  6. CreativeSPACES will be added as an exception when opened moving forward.
