The Metadata Management menu is your central hub for shaping how content is described, organized, and discovered in your MediaValet library.
From here, admins can build the fields that describe assets, manage the keywords that power search and filtering, create reusable metadata templates, and run bulk imports and exports of metadata across your library.
Think of Metadata Management as everything that defines the language of your library — the fields, tags, and structures that make your assets easy to find, group, and reuse. This article gives a quick overview of each tab. Use the links throughout to dive into the details on any specific area.
Heads up: Metadata Management is only available to admins and library admins.
Attributes and Keywords live here, alongside Metadata Templates and Metadata Export / Import.
Attributes
The Attributes tab is where admins build and maintain the custom fields that describe assets in your library — things like Campaign, Region, Asset Type, or Approval Status.
From here you can:
- Add new attributes to capture the information your team needs to track.
- Create attribute groups to keep related fields organized.
- Edit or delete existing attributes and attribute groups.
- Manage permissions on attribute groups so the right people see and edit the right fields.

Keywords
The Keywords tab is where you manage the controlled vocabulary that powers tagging, search, and filtering across your library.
From here you can:
- Add new keywords or edit existing ones.
- Create keyword groups to organize related terms together.
- Delete keywords you no longer need from your lists.

Metadata Templates
Metadata Templates let admins bundle attributes, keywords, and category associations into reusable presets that apply consistent metadata across groups of assets.
From this tab you can:
- Create new metadata templates from scratch.
- Edit a template’s associated categories, keywords, and attributes.
- Activate or deactivate existing templates as your needs evolve.

Metadata Export / Import
The Metadata Export / Import tab is where you move metadata in and out of your library in bulk — ideal for large updates, audits, or seeding a new category with consistent information.
From here you can:
- Import metadata into your library through a file.
- Export existing metadata from a selected category.
- Export metadata from a category to use as a template for a future import.
This tab also includes two sub-views:
- New Transfer — kick off a new import or export.
- Export History — review past transfers and their status at a glance.
