How do I make Embedded Metadata searchable?

By default, all embedded metadata fields are non-searchable, except for those that have been mapped to a System Attribute like Keywords from Stock Images. This is because embedded metadata usually contains a lot of unwanted information.

In order to make the embedded metadata searchable, you need to map it over to a custom attribute.

Before you begin, check that the embedded metadata field you wish to make searchable exists under IPTC, EXIF or XMP. For example, in the following image we will be looking to map the “Caption-Abstract” field found under IPTC.

Click on Metadata Management on the left side bar

Click Add New Attribute at the top right

Create a Text attribute, give it a name, and click on the Import Embedded Metadata button. Do not make it a required attribute as this will cause the user to override the embedded values with a user entered value. Select the embedded data and value type and enter a semicolon ; as the delimiter. Then click Save.

Note: Creating new mapped custom attributes only apply to new assets that are uploaded, and will not pull information out of existing assets in your library,

To retroactively fetch values, please reach out to the MediaValet support team at support@mediavalet.com

Please ensure you'e created all the new mapped custom attributes before you contact support so that we can pull out all of the embedded values at the same time.
