With the MediaValet Asana integration, you can push file attachments from an Asana task straight into a MediaValet category with no manual downloading or re-uploading required.
Before you start:
- The MediaValet Asana integration must be enabled for your workspace. If you don't see MediaValet listed under Apps on a task, contact your MediaValet administrator to have it added.
- The files you want to send to MediaValet should already be attached to the Asana task (uploaded normally, e.g. by dragging them into the task or using the Attachments section).
- You'll need permission in MediaValet to upload to the target category.
Steps to push assets to MediaValet
- Attach the files you want to send to MediaValet to the Asana task as normal task attachments, if you haven't already.

In the task pane, scroll to the Apps section. Next to MediaValet, click Sync assets.

The MediaValet Bi-Directional Sync window opens. From the Select Sync Direction dropdown, choose Push assets to MediaValet from Asana.
- Under Select Categories For Your Assets, confirm the root category — this defaults to Library (auto-selected as root).
- Under Select category, choose the destination folder for your assets.
- You can't upload directly to the root Library category — you'll see an error if you try: "Cannot upload assets directly to the root category 'Library'. Please select a subcategory." Pick a subfolder/subcategory instead.

Once you select a valid folder, the Target Category Path field auto-fills (e.g.
Library/Test_Folder) and shows a green Category exists confirmation.(Optional) Under Store Category Path In, choose an Asana custom field (e.g. Category Path) if you want the destination path saved on the task for reference.
(Optional) Under Attribute Mapping, map any of your Asana custom fields to MediaValet asset attributes — Alt Text, Description, Expiry Date, and Title are all available. This lets metadata you've already entered in Asana (like a campaign season or description field) carry over to the asset in MediaValet automatically.
- Asana pushes the attached files into the selected MediaValet category.
Once complete:
- A sync summary card appears under Apps → MediaValet, showing the direction, target category, files sent, and last sync time, with a View in MediaValet link.
- A matching comment is logged on the task (e.g., "[User] attached 2 files to MediaValet").
- Any Asana custom fields you mapped in step 7-8 are automatically filled in with the corresponding values.
Good to know:
- This setup isn't just a one-time push — the confirmation text notes that "Assets attached to the task will be synced to MediaValet when this rule triggers," meaning new attachments added to the task afterward can also flow through to the same MediaValet category.
- If you want to double check where files landed, use the View in MediaValet link on the sync summary card or the comment log entry.
