How to set up the MediaValet integration with Asana

Before you can push or pull assets between Asana and MediaValet, the MediaValet app needs to be connected to your Asana project. This article walks through adding the integration, plus how to disconnect it later if needed.

About the integration

The MediaValet integration for Asana brings your digital asset management (DAM) library directly into your project workflows, so marketing and creative teams can manage assets without switching tools. With it, you can:

Attach MediaValet assets to Asana tasks as asset links, without leaving Asana.
Push task attachments from Asana into MediaValet, with metadata mapped dynamically from your Asana custom fields.
Automatically push assets from Asana to MediaValet using rule-based triggers — including task status changes, custom field updates, assignee changes, date-based rules, and asset uploads.
Auto-tag exported assets with Asana context (project, section, task, assignee, due date) via the context-aware uploader.

Before you start

You'll need a MediaValet account and login credentials.
You'll need permission in Asana to customize the project (add apps).

Steps to connect MediaValet to a project

Open the Asana project where you want to use MediaValet, and click Customize in the top-right corner. Under Apps, click + Add.
In the app browser, find and select MediaValet. You'll see an overview of the integration, its features, and a preview of the Bi-Directional Sync experience.
Click Add to project.
You'll be taken through a two-step authorization:

Asana permissions — review and grant the requested access (reading/writing attachments, custom fields, projects, stories, tasks, and workspaces).
MediaValet login — you'll be redirected to the MediaValet login page. Sign in with your MediaValet credentials.

Once both sides authorize successfully, you'll see a Connected Successfully! confirmation ("Both Asana and MediaValet credentials have been saved"). This window closes automatically.
Back in Asana, a final screen confirms: "You added Mediavalet to a project. To start using the Mediavalet app, open a task in [your project] and look for the new Mediavalet field." Click Got it! to finish.
Open any task in the project — you should now see MediaValet listed under the Apps section, with a Sync assets option.

How to disconnect (deauthorize) MediaValet:

Deauthorizing removes MediaValet's connection across your Asana account. You'll need to repeat the setup steps above (per project) to reconnect it.

Deauthorization requires 2 steps.

Step 1:

To remove MediaValet's access to your Asana data:

Click your profile icon in the top-right corner and select Settings.
Go to the Apps tab.
Under Authorized Apps, find MediaValet and click Deauthorize.
Confirm by clicking Remove in the dialog.

Note the warning: "This will remove MediaValet's access to your Asana data in mediavalet.com. Any content added to Asana by this app will remain in Asana and must be deleted manually, if needed."

Step 2:

(Note: Both steps need to be complete for full deauthorization)

Select Customize
Select Apps

3. Select MediaValet

4. then click Remove from project

Good to know

If your organization uses a separate MediaValet QA/testing environment, it may show up as a distinct authorized app (e.g. "MediaValet QA") alongside your production "MediaValet" connection — deauthorizing one does not affect the other.
The integration is added per-project, so if you want to use it in multiple Asana projects, repeat the Connect steps above for each one.
