When pushing assets from Asana to MediaValet, you're not limited to categories that already exist — you can type a new category path directly into the MediaValet Bi-Directional Sync window, and MediaValet will use (or create) that folder structure as the destination.
Before you start
- The MediaValet Asana integration must be enabled for your workspace. If you don't see MediaValet listed under Apps on a task, contact your MediaValet administrator to have it added.
- You'll need permission in MediaValet to create categories in the relevant part of the library.
Steps to set a new category path
- Open the task in Asana with the files you want to send to MediaValet (attach them first if you haven't already).
- In the task pane, scroll to the Apps section. Next to MediaValet, click Sync assets.
- In the MediaValet Bi-Directional Sync window, set Select Sync Direction to Push assets to MediaValet from Asana.
- Under Select Categories For Your Assets, confirm the root category — this defaults to Library (auto-selected as root).
- Instead of picking an existing folder from the Select category dropdown, type your desired destination directly into the Target Category Path field, using
/to separate levels — for example:Library/NewCampaignFolder.
- As you type, MediaValet checks the path. If it matches an existing category, you'll see a green Category exists: [path] confirmation.
- You can't push directly to the root Library category on its own — you'll see: "Cannot upload assets directly to the root category 'Library'. Please select a subcategory." Make sure your path includes at least one subfolder level.
- (Optional) Complete the rest of the form as needed — Store Category Path In to save the path to an Asana custom field, and the Attribute Mapping fields (Alt Text, Description, Expiry Date, Title) if you want Asana field values to carry over as metadata.
- Click Submit.
- Asana pushes the attached files to that category path in MediaValet.
A note before you publish this article
In testing, we confirmed the Target Category Path field validates an existing path with a green Category exists confirmation. We did not directly observe the confirmation message that appears when the typed path does not already exist (i.e., the exact wording MediaValet shows when it's about to create a brand-new category). Before publishing, it's worth doing one quick test with a genuinely new folder name to capture:
- The exact message shown when the category doesn't exist yet (e.g., does it say "will be created," or something else?)
- Whether the new category appears immediately in MediaValet after Submit, or only after the sync completes
