MediaValet's Cold Storage is your go-to solution for archiving digital asset that are no longer needed for regular use, but still need to be securely stored indefinitely. Whether you’re dealing with extensive archives of high-resolution images, long-form videos, extensive collections of marketing collateral, completed project files, historical company records, or comprehensive legal documents, Cold Storage provides a secure and efficient way to store and manage these valuable digital assets.
How does it work?
- Please contact your Customer Success Manager to define your Cold Storage category. This category will store all your unused assets
- You will work alongside your Customer Success Manager to provide Cold Storage access to the necessary users
- Every time you tag an asset to this category, this asset will become a cold asset
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is Metadata Maintained when assets are moved from hot to cold?
A: Yes. Any metadata that is attached to assets in hot storage will be maintained when moved to cold storage. This includes all metadata so long as it was added in hot storage. Assets in cold storage cannot have cognitive metadata added to them, e.g. video assets in cold storage cannot be run through AVI.
2. Can the metadata of assets be viewed and used to search for assets while they are in cold storage?
A: Yes, the metadata of assets can be viewed and used to search for assets while they are in cold storage. However, only approved users can access these assets and their metadata; all other users will not be able to access or search for assets in cold storage.
3. How long does it take for an asset to be retrieved from cold storage?
A: Assets will be transferred from cold storage to hot storage in batches once the Cold Storage tag is removed. We recommend keeping assets in cold storage for at least 90 days, as early retrieval will incur a penalty fee.
4. Can assets in cold storage be previewed? If so, in what quality?
A: Yes. Assets in cold storage can be previewed in full resolution.
5. Are actions such as share, download, check-out, etc. available?
A: Yes, all actions are currently available in cold storage, but the plan is to limit them due to the costs associated with asset retrieval and the need to differentiate them from hot storage. Ideally, administrators will move the asset to hot storage to use actions.
