How to Custom Sort Attributes and Attribute Groups in MediaValet

Overview

MediaValet allows administrators to customize the sort order of both attributes and attribute groups, giving you control over how metadata fields are organized and displayed across your library. This feature is available to all customers.

Custom sorting affects how attributes and groups appear in the asset side panel and asset detail view for all users in your library, helping teams find and fill in metadata more efficiently.

Note: Attribute grouping is available to all customers. Attribute group permissions are part of an add-on. Custom sort ordering does not require the add-on.

Sorting Attribute Groups

Administrators with attribute management permissions can reorder how attribute groups are displayed.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Attributes.

  2. Click the sort icon next Attribute Groups.

  3. A modal will appear showing all of your attribute groups. Drag and drop the groups by clicking on the three horizontal lines to arrange them in your preferred order.

  4. Click Save to apply the new sort order.

Alphabetical Sorting

If you prefer an alphabetical arrangement rather than a custom order:

  1. Open the sort modal (steps above).

  2. Select Alphabetical sort from the dropdown menu.

  3. Click Apply.

Sorting Attributes Within a Group

You can also customize the order of individual attributes inside each group.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Attributes.

  2. Click on the attribute group you want to reorder.

  3. Select Sort Attributes.

  4. A modal will appear showing all attributes within that group. Drag and drop the attributes into your preferred order.

  5. Click Apply to save.

Where Custom Sort Order Applies

Custom sort ordering for attributes and attribute groups is reflected in the following views for all users:

  • Asset Side Panel — The attributes and groups appear in the order you set when viewing asset details from the side panel.

  • Asset Detail View — The full detail view also respects your custom sort order.

Note: Attribute edit modals (such as those displayed during or after upload) currently use a different view and do not reflect custom sort ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can customize the sort order?
Administrators with permissions to manage attributes can set the sort order. The sort order they set applies to all users in the library.

Does this feature require an add-on?
No. Custom sorting for attributes and attribute groups is available to all customers at no additional cost. Only attribute group permissions require an add-on.

Will my custom sort order affect how users fill in metadata during upload?
Not currently. The attribute edit modals shown during or after upload use a separate view that does not yet reflect custom sort ordering. Custom ordering is visible in the asset side panel and detail view.

Can I sort both attribute groups and the attributes inside them?
Yes. You can independently customize the order of your attribute groups as well as the order of attributes within each group.
