Generating CDN Links for Image and Video Assets
This article explains how to generate CDN links for image and video assets using the redesigned CDN link creation experience, including how to apply dynamic transformations such as format optimization, cropping, resizing, and video background playback settings.
Before You Begin You must have sharing permissions for the assets in your library to create CDN links. If you do not see the sharing options mentioned below, please reach out to your library administrator. The supported image formats are JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, and HEIC. If your asset is in a different format, you will need to choose a supported output format such as JPEG or PNG when generating the CDN link.
Opening the CDN Link Dialog
There are two ways to access the CDN link dialog for an asset:
Option A: From the Asset Grid Click the </> (CDN link) icon located in the bottom-right corner of the asset card.
Option B: From the Asset Detail Panel Click on any asset to open its detail panel, then click the Share button at the bottom of the panel and select As CDN Link from the dropdown menu.
The Get a CDN Link Dialog
Once opened, the dialog displays two tabs:
- Dynamic Transformation — Allows you to apply real-time transformations to your asset before generating the link. A live preview refreshes automatically as you make adjustments.
- Link Settings — Provides additional link configuration options, retaining the same functionality as the previous version.
Generating a CDN Link for an Image Asset
- Select the Dynamic Transformation tab if it is not already active.
- Review the live preview to see how your chosen transformations will affect the asset.
- Configure any of the following transformation options as needed:
- Auto-optimize format — Enabled by default. MediaValet automatically delivers the most efficient image format (AVIF, WebP, or JPEG) based on the end user's browser. It is recommended to leave this enabled unless a fixed output format is required.
- Crop — Toggle this on to dynamically crop the image. The crop region can be adjusted directly within the preview panel.
- Resize — Toggle this on to define a custom width and/or height. Enter the desired values in the Width and Height fields, with a maximum of 2000px per dimension.
- If required, toggle Create a Unique Link on to generate a one-time-use or access-controlled link. Unlike a standard CDN link, a unique link can be individually tracked, shared with specific recipients, or revoked without impacting any other existing links to the same asset.
- The CDN link in the CDN Link field will update automatically. Click Copy URL to copy it to your clipboard.
Note: Drag-to-select cropping is not available in this release. Crop region adjustments can be made using the controls within the preview panel. This feature may be introduced in a future update based on user feedback.
Generating a CDN Link for a Video Asset
Video assets use the same Get a CDN Link dialog, with additional video-specific transformation options. Embed links are now generated by default for video assets, which improves bandwidth efficiency and ensures compatibility with transformation parameters.
- Select the Dynamic Transformation tab.
- Configure the playback options for your video:
- Video Background Playback — Toggle this on to set up the video for use as a background asset. This will automatically enable Video Autoplay, Video Mute, Video Looping, and Hide Video Player Controls.
- Alternatively, you can toggle each option individually for a custom configuration:
- Video Autoplay — Automatically begins playback when the video loads. Note: most modern browsers require the video to be muted for autoplay to function.
- Video Mute — Plays the video without audio.
- Video Looping — Continuously replays the video.
- Hide Video Player Controls — Removes the visible playback controls from the video player.
- If needed, toggle Create a Unique Link on.
- Click Copy URL to copy the generated embed link.
