How to Install and Use the Microsoft Office 365 Connector (All Users)

In this article, you will learn how to install MediaValet's new Microsoft Office 365 connector for Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and how to identify it in your ribbon.

NOTE

If you are an administrator, please refer to How to Install Microsoft 365 for Admins.

What's new in the updated connector

  • Excel is now supported. The previous (legacy) connector supported Word and PowerPoint only.
  • Assets insert at Large resolution by default (previously Medium in the legacy connector), for higher image quality in your documents.
  • Alt text now carries over automatically with each inserted asset.
  • Works in both the web and desktop versions of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Before you begin

Confirm the following with your MediaValet administrator:

  • The Microsoft Office 365 integration is enabled for your MediaValet library.
  • You have been assigned a seat for the integration

NOTE

You'll need a Microsoft 365 account and access to Word, PowerPoint, or Excel (web or desktop) to complete installation.

Step 1: Install the connector

  1. Open Word, PowerPoint, or Excel — web or desktop.
  2. Go to the Home tab.
  3. Select Add-ins (this may appear as Add-ins → More Add-ins depending on your version of Office).
  4. If your admin has already installed the add-in for your organization, MediaValet may already be there. If it is not, search for “MediaValet for Office”
  5. Select Add to install the connector.
  6. Sign in to your MediaValet account when prompted.Once signed in to MediaValet, you should see a few of your Recently Uploaded assets in the add-in sidebar (see image below).

7. Once signed in to MediaValet, you should see a few of your Recently Uploaded assets in the add-in sidebar (see image below).

8. Now you are ready to insert assets. To explore, you can click on the category tree, the hamburger menu, or use the search bar.

Step 2: Removing the legacy MediaValet connector (Optional)

If you installed the legacy MediaValet connector yourself, both will appear in your ribbon during your transition to the new connector.

  1. Click Manage next to My Add-Ins

What happens if I do not remove the legacy connector?

You do not need to remove the legacy connector for the new one to work — both can run side by side. Once you're comfortable with the new connector, it is recommended to remove the legacy connector as it will no longer be supported or updated.
